لماذا يُطلق على الهيبودروم اسم سلطان أحمد اليوم؟
هذا السؤال يوحي بسؤال آخر؛ لماذا يُطلق على مسجد سلطان أحمد اسم المسجد الأزرق؟ كلمة "هيبودروم" تعني مضمار الخيل في اللغة اليونانية. كان سكان بيزنطة أو الإمبراطورية الرومانية الجديدة يحبون الألعاب. بنى اليونانيون المسارح للكوميديا والدراما، وبنوا الملاعب للألعاب الأولمبية. أما الرومان، فقد بنوا المدرجات لمعارك المصارعين والهيبودرومات لسباقات الخيل. عرف العثمانيون وظيفة هيبودروم القسطنطينية وأطلقوا عليه ببساطة اسم "ساحة الخيل". تم بناء المسجد الأزرق على أساسات قصر روماني بأمر من السلطان أحمد الأول. وقد سمّت تركيا الحديثة الساحة باسم المسجد المزين بالبلاط الأزرق الجميل للسلطان أحمد الأول.
متى تم بناء ساحة سلطان أحمد؟
قام الإمبراطور سيبتيموس سيفيروس ببناء مضمار لسباقات الخيل في وسط مدينة بيزنطة حتى قبل أن تُسمى روما الجديدة أو القسطنطينية في عام 203. أعلن قسطنطين العظيم مدينة بيزنطة عاصمة جديدة للإمبراطورية الرومانية في عام 324. استثمر كثيرًا في تطوير المدينة حتى أُطلق عليها اسمه بدلاً من روما الجديدة. تم بناء أعمدة العالم القديم والقصور والمعابد حول وفي وسط المدرجات التي كانت تتسع لمئة ألف شخص في العصر الروماني. كان طول الهيبودروم 450 مترًا وعرضه 130 مترًا في العصر الروماني. كان نقطة انطلاق سباقات الخيل في الطرف الشمالي للهيبودروم بالقرب من آيا صوفيا، وكان هناك انعطاف بزاوية 180 درجة في الطرف الجنوبي. تم تزيين مضمار السباق على شكل حرف U بمسلمة توتومس الثالث، وعمود الثعبان، والمسلمة المحاطة بالجدران في الوسط.
ماذا يمكن رؤيته في سلطان أحمد؟
توجد ثلاثة أعمدة قديمة جميلة في ساحة سلطان أحمد اليوم. الأول هو عمود برونزي صغير تم جلبه إلى إسطنبول من دلفي في اليونان بواسطة قسطنطين العظيم في عام 324. تم بناء العمود المكون من ثلاثة ثعابين متشابكة من قبل اليونانيين في عام 479 لإحياء ذكرى الانتصار على الفرس بعد معركة بلاتيا. كانت رؤوس الثعابين مغطاة بالذهب وكانت الثلاثة موجودة حتى القرن السابع عشر، وهو ما يتضح من المصغرات العثمانية. اليوم، يمكن رؤية قطعة واحدة فقط من رأس الثعبان البرونزي في متحف الآثار في إسطنبول بينما فُقد الاثنان الآخران. خلف عمود الثعبان، يمكنك رؤية مسلمة توتومس الثالث التي تم جلبها من الكرنك في مصر في عام 390. العمود الأخير في ساحة سلطان أحمد هو المسلمة المحاطة بالجدران. بنى قسطنطين بورفيروجينيتوس المسلمة المحاطة بالجدران التي كانت مغطاة بألواح برونزية مذهبة. تم نهبها من قبل القوات اللاتينية في الحملة الصليبية الرابعة. يمكن رؤية النواة الحجرية للعمود اليوم.

تحيط أهم معالم إسطنبول بساحة سلطان أحمد. آيا صوفيا، المسجد الأزرق، قصر توبكابي، متحف الفنون التركية والإسلامية، ونافورة الألمان هي الجواهر الأساسية لساحة سلطان أحمد. بينما تعتبر آيا صوفيا التي يعود تاريخها إلى القرن الرابع عشر الأقدم والأجمل بين هذه المعالم، تُعتبر نافورة الألمان طفلة بعمر 121 عامًا. إلى جانب روائع الرومان والعثمانيين على الأرض، تحتوي ساحة سلطان أحمد على خزانين ضخمين تحت الأرض. خزانات يريباتان وبنبيرديريك هما مثالان جميلان سليمان من مئات خزانات المياه في عاصمة روما الجديدة. لم يبقَ الكثير خاصة من المدرجات الأصلية للهيبودروم القديم، ولكن لرؤية أسس الهيبودروم الروماني، يجب عليك التجول حول المبنى الأبيض الكبير خلف المسلمة المحاطة بالجدران والذي يعود لجامعة مرمرة. كان الهيبودروم القديم يمتد لأكثر من 200 متر بعد المسلمة المحاطة بالجدران، ويقع مبنى الجامعة على أسس الهيبودروم الروماني الذي يمكن رؤيته بعد المشي لمدة خمس دقائق من ساحة سلطان أحمد إلى حديقة خلف الجامعة. أثناء المشي من آيا صوفيا إلى ساحة سلطان أحمد، يرجى الانتباه إلى حجر الميل الروماني الذي يقع على بعد متر واحد تحت مسارات الترام الأصلية. مر بإشارات المرور بعد الخروج من آيا صوفيا وانعطف يسارًا. انظر إلى الأسفل مباشرة بعد خمسين خطوة لرؤية حجر الميل الروماني. كما يقول المثل القديم، كل الطرق تؤدي إلى روما!
