Located in the province of Mugla, the ancient city of Euromos is an eye-catching ruin with its historical richness. Euromos was the most important city of the region after Mylasa in ancient times. Although the ruins of the city are very worn, we still see the Temple of Zeus, one of the best preserved temples in Asia, standing tall.

The name of the city was Kyramos or Hyramos in the 5th century BC. However, as a result of the Hellenization policy of Mausolos in Caria, the name Euromos, which means strong in Greek, began to be used.

Euromos was a member of the Attica-Delos Naval Association. After Alexander the Great conquered the region, it changed hands between Macedonia, Egypt and Syria, respectively. Between 201-196 BC, the temple, agora and city walls were repaired after the Macedonian King Philip the 5th came under the rule. It was renamed Philippoi. In 188 BC, he had to make an alliance with Mylasa against the forces that came from Rhodes to Caria. With the Treaty of Apameia, it was left under the rule of Rhodes along with the rest of Caria. After a while, the city was attacked by its neighbor Herakleia, who was uncomfortable with this treaty. Over the years it has developed and achieved independence. Euromos, which developed and enriched with its independence, had its monumental structures in this period.

Agora Antik kentin önemli yapılarından birisi olan agora, Milas-İzmir karayolunun hemen doğusunda yer alıyor.

Temple of Zeus Lepsynos The most famous structure of the ancient city that has survived to the present day is the Temple of Zeus Lepsynos, dedicated to the god Zeus. It was built in the 2nd century, during the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian, at the foot of the hill called Kızılbayır outside the city. It is considered one of the best preserved half-dozen temples in Asia. Since 16 of the 17 columns, together with their upper beams, have survived to the present day intact, the people called it Footed. We know that 5 of the columns were made by the physicist and public official Menekrates and his daughter Tryphania, and 7 of them were made by another public official named Leo Quintos.

Theatre A typical Hellenic theater used in the middle of the 3rd century BC can be seen in the ancient city. The theater has reached today in a destroyed way.

Walls On the hill behind the temple, there are walls surrounding the city and covering a large area belonging to the Hellenistic and Roman periods. In the continuation of the fortification wall built with cut stones, towers belonging to the defense system are encountered.
