Karain Mağarası
Arkeoloji, Karain Mağarası'nın yaklaşık iki yüz bin yıl önce insanlar tarafından işgal edildiğini gösteriyor. Mağarada bulunan el yapımı aletler, insanların yirmi beş bin yıl önce bu mağaralarda barındığını bize gösteriyor. Mağaranın son sakinleri, Karain Mağarası'nın hemen arkasındaki dağların diğer tarafında bulunan Hacılar Neolitik yerleşimi ile bağlantılara sahipti. Anadolu'daki Neolitik topluluklar arasındaki ilişkiyi gösteren çok sayıda kanıt bulunmaktadır. Ancak, Karain Mağarası'ndaki insan yüzü oymalarının tarzları, Akdeniz'in Doğu Kıyısı'nda yaşayan Levant kültürüne benzemektedir. Deniz seviyesinin 15 bin yıl önce 130 metre daha yüksek olduğunu düşünürsek, denizcilerin ticaret için Anadolu'nun Akdeniz Kıyısı'na demir atması daha kolaydı. Deniz seviyesi 15 bin yıl önce düşmeye başladığında, Karain yerleşimcileri Akdeniz'den uzaklaştı. Anadolu'da Yunan kolonizasyonu başladığında, Karain Mağarası güneybatı halkı arasında dini bir öneme sahipti. Yunanlılar da girişte monogramlar bıraktı ve Termessos, bugünkü Antalya, Türkiye'nin yaylalarının diğer tarafında gelişti.

Karain Mağarası'nın Tarihi
Karain Mağarası, Anadolu'nun Paleolitik Tarihi'nde önemli bir yerleşim yeridir. Mağara, Neolitik, Kalkolitik ve Erken Tunç Çağı boyunca sürekli olarak insanlar tarafından kullanılmıştır. Mağaranın arkeolojik buluntuları, benzer örneklerinden farklı olarak çok uzun bir zaman dilimine aittir. Mağarada erken Roma dönemine ait izler bulunmakta olup, bu da mağaranın Yunan ve Roma işgali sırasında bölgenin adı olan Psidia halkı arasında önemini göstermektedir. Karain Mağarası'nda Neolitik ve Paleolitik dönemlere ait çakmak taşı bıçaklar, ok uçları ve kazıyıcılar bulunmuştur. Ankara'daki Anadolu Medeniyetleri Müzesi, Karain Mağarası'ndan çıkarılan eserlerin güzel bir koleksiyonuna sahiptir.
Karain Mağarası'nın Jeolojisi
Karain Mağarası aslında doğal bir mağara sistemidir. Kalkerli kayalar, suyun etkisiyle içeriden aşınarak birbirine geçitlerle bağlı üç mağaralı bir sistem oluşturmuştur. Duvarlar kalsit olup, mağaraların içinde samanlar, sütunlar ve akıntı taşları görülmektedir.
