Türk ve İslam Eserleri Müzesi
Türk ve İslam Eserleri Müzesi, Türk ve İslam eserlerini bir araya getiren etkileyici bir müzedir. Sultanahmet Meydanı'nda, Mavi Camii'nin karşısında, 16. yüzyıl Osmanlı mimarisinin en önemli yapılarından biri olan İbrahim Paşa Sarayı'nda yer almaktadır. Aynı zamanda Osmanlı döneminde açılan son müzedir. Müzede, el yazması Kuranlar, minyatürler, antik halılar, el yazmaları, ahşap, cam-metal-seramik ve etnografya bölümlerinde benzersiz Türk ve İslam eserleri bulunmaktadır.
Müze, kullanılan sergileme tekniği ile dünya standartlarında bir müzedir ve müzede, 661 yılından günümüze kadar Türk-İslam dünyasının değerli eserleri 40.000'den fazla parça olarak sergilenmektedir.
Müze ilk olarak 1914 yılında Süleymaniye Camii Külliyesi içindeki İmaret binasında açılmıştır. Ancak o dönemde alınan tüm önlemlere rağmen birçok cami, mescit, manastır ve türbede büyük bir hırsızlık sorunu yaşanmaktaydı. Bu nedenle, Osman Hamdi Bey'in (şu anda Pera Müzesi'nde sergilenen "Kaplumbağa Terbiyecisi" tablosuyla tanınan ünlü bir ressam) yönlendirmesiyle, bu tarihi yerlerden toplanan çeşitli eserler bir araya getirilmiş ve aynı yerde İslam Vakıfları Müzesi adıyla yeni bir müze kurulmuştur. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kurulmasından sonra müzenin adı Türk ve İslam Eserleri Müzesi olarak değiştirilmiştir.
Müze daha sonra, Kanuni Sultan Süleyman tarafından 1520 yılında yenilenen ve Sultanahmet Meydanı'nda, Mavi Camii'nin tam karşısında bulunan İbrahim Paşa Sarayı'ndaki bugünkü yerine taşınmıştır. Müzede halı, el yazması, ahşap, cam-metal-seramik ve etnografya bölümleri bulunmaktadır. İslam sanatının erken dönemlerinden 20. yüzyıla kadar olan dönemde yazılmış Kuran el yazmaları, minyatürler, antik halılar gibi 40.000'den fazla benzersiz Türk ve İslam eseri bu bölümlerde sergilenmektedir. Koleksiyonların çoğu Emeviler, Abbasiler, Endülüsler, Selçuklular, İlhanlılar, Memlükler, Timurlular ve Safeviler hanedanlıklarına, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'na ve çeşitli Kafkas ülkelerine aittir. Özellikle Selçuklu döneminden beri dokunan ve kullanılan devasa halılar ve kilimler dikkat çekmektedir.
Halılar
Müzenin halı koleksiyonunda, dünyada eşsiz bir halı koleksiyonu olan 15. yüzyıldan 17. yüzyıla kadar Selçuklu, Osmanlı, Anadolu, İran ve Kafkas halıları ile ünlü Uşak halıları sergilenmektedir. Zengin halı koleksiyonu nedeniyle müze aynı zamanda Halı Müzesi olarak da anılmaktadır.
Metal, Cam ve Seramik Eserler
Müzenin metal, cam ve seramik bölümünde, 12. ve 13. yüzyıldan Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun son dönemine kadar olan metal, cam ve seramik eserler sergilenmektedir. Selçuklu ve Osmanlı yapılarının seramik ve alçı kabartmaları, Abbasi saraylarından kurtarılan duvar resimleri, Rakka'dan taşlar, çeşitli dönemlere ait ahşap işçiliği ve taş işçiliği ilk dikkat çeken unsurlardır.
